Posong, the Hidden Paradise of Temanggung

Temanggung is a region in the Province of Central Java where two of the most famous mountains for hikers stand, i.e. Mt. Sumbing and Mt. Sindoro. Naturally, they form the region's landscape. Consequently, this sloppy land affects the people's economic activities. In other words, almost all economic activities are based on this natural potential.

Being located on the slope of those mountains, a lot of Temanggungese work on the hilly fields as farmers. The crops that suit this kind of topography are those of horticulture. And it's been well-known for years that Temanggung is the center of tobacco production in Indonesia. Aside from tobacco, coffee are planted on the same fields.

This agriculture adds to the region's tourism industry. As the fields offer beautiful views of the tobacco fields with lines of pine and coffee trees, some tourist destinations are created on some spots so that visitors would be able to enjoy them.

The spot that I visited last Saturday is called Posong. It's a sort of garden that offers a breathtaking view of Mt. Sindoro and the surrounding tobacco fields. There are some traditional coffee shops not only offering special taste of Temanggung coffee, but also some mineral water, soda, tea, noodle, and some snacks. The weather is cold, and misty. There's a lot of rain when it's rainy season. I mean, the volume is higher than that of the lowland. Some photo spots overlooking the tobacco fields and Mt. Sindoro are also provided to accommodate selfie-lovers. It also provides campers to camp here. The tents are already build. Looking at the camp, we can imagine what it feels like to wake up to the views and sunrise.

To get there, the path leading up is windy and steep. When you want to go there, make sure that your car motorbike that is on a great condition. You may get it's machine checked or had a routine service maintenance. You need to also make sure that you or your driver can drive on that kind of stoned path playfully. If you think to can't, the provider gives us a bus ride to get to the top. The bus will be waiting for us until we're finished and get down. If you decide to take the bus, there's a car park next to the main get where you can buy the admission ticket. The ticket for one person is Rp.20.000,00. This gorgeous is worth that amount of money. When you're in Yogyakarta, please try it out. It's only a 2 hour-car ride from the City. If you're backpacking, I recommend you to rent a car from Yogyakarta. Come and enjoy Central Java as much as you do with Yogyakarta.
