Yogyakarta: ASEAN's City of Culture

As a city that is rich with cultural heritages, Yogyakarta has been awarded the ASEAN's City of Culture. This award is not a nonsense. Even if with this kind of reputation, the City itself is still striving for renovating and reconstructing all the heritages it has to get them will be well-preserved. Here are some snapshots of its architectural heritages. They are part of the culture of Yogyakarta.

The image above is of Bank Indonesia Yogyakarta Office that is located on Jalan Sultan Agung and is still a part of Yogyakarta City's downtown 0 km point.

The building above is called 'Gedung Agung', which is one of Indonesia's Presidential Palaces.

I am sure that you have been familiar with the image above. BTW, even though the Kraton has been quite famous and a must-see place in Yogyakarta, the Royal Family is still striving for making it a better and more beautiful place so that visitors would feel proud of being able to visit and appreciate its existence.

The two images above are of a Batik Shop that sits on a street off the east of 'Alun-Alun Utara' (the North Square of) Kraton Yogyakarta. Look at the facade. Do you think we can say it's of an indies style building?

The image above is called 'Plengkung Wijilan' (Wijilan Arch). It is not far from the Batik Shop I mentioned above. Along the street, there are some famous 'Gudheg' (Javanese traditional food made of long boiled and cooked jack fruit and tastes sweet).

The image above shows us the situation of the street surrounding the 'Alun-Alun Utara'.

This street sign stands right in front of the north front face of BNI 46 Indonesia Yogyakarta Office.
