Curug Kedondong, Karanggayam, Kebumen

Kebumen Regency, my hometown, is completely not famous for its tourism. People know that there are some tourist destinations in some parts, but that's just that. Nothing's so special about it. All we know is that there are some beaches, only one with white sands called 'Menganti'. Then, there is also a site with various types of ancient rocks where researchers and students from universities (having 'Geology' course) like ITB, UI, UGM, etc. regularly visit for a field trip called 'Karangsambung', and some small waterfalls or 'curug'.

Despite its constraints in tourism, there is a small 'curug' on the north part of Kebumen. It is called 'Curug Kedondong' which is located in Gunungsari Village, Karanggayam District. This 'curug' is about 45 minutes away from Kebumen City center. The road leading there is very windy and steep in some parts. What makes it even worse is that the asphalt is of low quality, then there are many holes of broken asphalt on the road.

I once went there with my friend who is originally from the Gunungsari Village. He lives in Yogyakarta, but his parents and other relatives live in the Village. For me personally, the Village is very remote. It borders Kebumen Regency and Banjarnegara Regency on the north. No wonder its geographic condition is hilly with a valley in the middle. His parents' house is located down the valley.

The 'curug' features a small waterfall that is dry in dry season as it is really dependent on rain. The Village Government started to prioritize it as a tourist destination since two years ago. To support that ambition, it has added some facilities like decorative hanging umbrellas, some vendors selling food and drinks, mushala and toilets. Do not expect standardized facilities like those of Yogyakarta or Bali. The facilities here are very simple.

Spread out in the location, there are some quotes that are painted on decorative boards. If you are a huge fan of fancy places, then this 'curug' should be stricken out of your list. But, if you are a kind of nature explorer, this place is worth visiting, though I don't put it in my recommendation list. Yeah, for an exploration, it's not that bad. We can still enjoy the green view though. Here are some snapshots of the 'curug'. Please enjoy.
