Museum Benteng Vredeburg Yogyakarta

Jogjanese know Benteng Vredeburg (Vredeburg Fortress) very well. Tourists, both local and foreign, might be so, for it is located in the center of Yogyakarta City, across from Gedung Agung, in an area that is called "titik 0 kilometer" of Yogyakarta City. It is really easy to find.

The building is of Colonial architecture, because it was built by the Dutch colonialists to keep an eye on the Kraton Yogyakarta and its all activities. No wonder they are located not really far away from each other. Currently, the Benteng houses Museum of Indonesia's independence struggle. Collections of diorama on Jogja's roles in the war are displayed. There is also a room where visitors may feel the atmosphere of "gerilya war". They may see how heroic they were, the people of Yogyakarta.

Benteng Vredeburg is a public Museum, and the ticket to come in is really affordable. Even in August, when Indonesians celebrate their independence day, the museum would be free of charge to come in. It also provides us with many beautiful spots to take photos. Come and see how hard we struggle for our independence!
