Universitas Gadjah Mada's Academic Building

Gedung Pusat UGM’ (UGM Academic Building) is one of the heritage buildings in Yogyakarta. Since its inauguration on 19 December 1959 by the first President of Indonesia, Ir. Soekarno, the building has housed Universitas Gadjah Mada’s central offices. What makes it even surprising is that it is said to be Indonesia’s first post-independence modern building to be built by Indonesians.

It was Hadinegoro who designed the three-storey building. He took it very seriously and therefore it took him 9 years to completely finish building this majestic, elegant and prestigious construction. Being considered a heritage, the building has philosophical values and meanings as embodied in its architecture, ornaments and construction. (Adapted from: Humas UGM/Gusti Grehenson)
