"ARJUNA" Temple, Dieng, Banjarnegara

Dieng is the highest plateau inhibited by humans on the Island of Java. As a plateau, it offers some interesting natural spots to visit. One of my favorite (as an architecture lover) is 'Candi Arjuna' (candi: temple).

Its design is very beautiful (I'm not exaggerating...). And obviously it's a kind of Hindu temple that usually looks 'slim' and tall (unlike those of Buddha which are 'fat' and usually short). Moreover, it has no stupa! Made it clear that it's not that of Buddha!

Whatever it is, the complex is just really beautiful. Surrounded by green grass, it consists of compounds that are scattered around the area. There's also a wooden 'pendhopo' not far from the entrance, where visitors can stop for a while, have a rest, and enjoy the view.

What makes it even better is that it's located in the heart of the village of Dieng (where inns 'stand' along its main Street). Then when people want to visit this, they just need to walk from where they stay. Definitely worth visiting!

Wonosobo is only 3 hours from Yogyakarta by a car/motorcycle ride, while Dieng Plateau is 4 hours. The best route to take is through Borobudur temple. Then take the road that leads to Purworejo. Keep an eye to find a right turn that leads to Wonosobo. Be careful to drive/ride because it's a winding and hilly road. Put safety first and once you get to Wonosobo, try 'Mie Ongklok' first (on the previous post). Enjoy Wonosobo and Dieng!
