Vredeburg Fair #9 2023: Gate to Indonesia's Colonialization History

Assalaamu'alaikum, wonderful people. How have you been doing? It's been a while since I posted anything. This is definitely because I haven't traveled to a place I haven't been or attended a festival I haven't seen in the past one and a half years. After having a baby girl, my wife and I have been busy taking care of her. Aside from the fact that she is still young, she also has something that disturbs her regularly from around 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. Usually, out of nowhere, she just cries for no apparent reason. We did not know the cause, and we concluded that something invisible disturbed her. Not to mention that a baby is still vulnerable to viruses. She's been attacked by the flu and cough several times. Therefore, we have been busy taking care of her in that regard.

Luckily for us, last Sunday, we had the opportunity to go on a date as if we had no toddler. We decided to send her to her nanny because we thought we needed some time for ourselves.

On that date, we visited Vredeburg Fair #9. It was a fair where the fortress showcased some relics and objects that testify to Indonesia's struggle for independence, ranging from propaganda posters, typewriters, sets of furniture, weapons, backpacks, uniforms, and TV sets that played historic films about independence.

Not only did they display objects, but the fair also provided visitors with a spot to take selfies. If you enjoy taking selfies and are fond of history, this is a great opportunity for you to enjoy.

The highlights of the fair included, first, an attendance catalog and feedback where the committee used barcodes so that they did not have to use any paper. Second, they also had a stage where some invited local bands and singers performed to entertain the visitors. In addition to that, they opened a bazaar where local vendors sold products ranging from food and beverages to crafts, clothes, and merchandise. The fair's catalog is attached here. Please have a look.

Wonderful people, again, if you're interested, please visit the fair, enjoy, learn, and stay healthy.

Wassalaamu'alaikum.
