Masjid 'Soko Tunggal' Taman Sari
Some of us may not familiar with the existence of Masjid 'Soko Tunggal' that is set in the neighborhood of Taman Sari, Yogyakarta. This Masjid is very unique in a way that it has only one pole that supports the whole roof. Normally, Javanese buildings like this have four poles (soko). The 'soko' is made of teak wood that it can stay strong for hundreds of years. the older the wood, the stronger it becomes.
Another sign of Javanese architectural aspect that the Masjid has is its pyramid-shaped roof. With two storeys, it adopts the concept of holding up Allah SWT. On other (old) Masjids (in Java), the pyramid roof is of three-storeys.
If you want to have a visit, it is located on the 'gang'/lane that leads to the main entrance to 'Taman Sari' Water Castle.
